Orion StarShoot Deep Space Monochrome Imager III Orion StarShoot Deep Space Monochrome Imager III
List Price: $1,299.95
Sale Price: $1,299.95

The StarShoot Deep Space Monochrome Imager III will put you on the cutting edge of imaging technology, using the same "tri-color" photo processing technique employed by professional astronomers the world over. The composites you take will combine to reveal previously unnoticed details in deep-sky objects. What's more, the new DSMI III utilizes the highly acclaimed 2/3" format Sony ICX285AL CCD with an impressive 1360x1024 pixel array. This impressive imaging chip provides high sensitivity and resolution, and yields superior color rendition when used with LRGB filters. The DSMI III utilizes Thermoelectric Cooling (TEC) - a feature not always offered by the competition - which dramatically reduces electronic noise for better-quality images. The TEC efficiency is further enhanced by an integrated cooling fan and aluminum heat sink camera body. Fan speed is adjustable and there's an optional TEC shutoff for severe outdoor conditions. The included MaxIm DL Essentials v2.04 software provides an easy interface for focusing, capturing, dual camera control for imaging and autoguiding, batch processing, dark frame and flat field calibration, image stacking, and more. All power for the camera, TEC and fan is supplied by a single 12-volt DC connection. A 10' power cable with cigarette lighter plug and a 10' USB cable are included. The DSMI III also comes with a custom hard carrying case for safe transport. One-year limited warranty.

Orion StarShoot Pro V2.0 Deep Space Color CCD Orion StarShoot Pro V2.0 Deep Space Color CCD
List Price: $1,299.95
Sale Price: $1,299.95

Since its introduction in May of 2008, the Orion StarShoot Pro has sent shockwaves through the astro-imaging community, setting a new standard for price and performance. Now weâ?TMve outdone ourselves again by improving the StarShoot Pro with refined features and functionality to provide the very best in affordable imaging technology. Our enhanced StarShoot Pro V2.0 brings cooled, multi-megapixel color imaging into the realm of never-before-seen affordability. Its Sony 6.1-megapixel color CCD chip boasts a 3032 x 2016 pixel array in a 23.4mm x 15.6mm format. That gives the Pro 6.5 times the image area and over four times the pixels as similarly priced astro CCD cameras. In fact, it uses the same chip found in cameras costing thousands more! The Pro's square 7.8 micron pixel size provides an excellent balance between high resolution and sensitivity. With some cameras in cooler weather conditions, condensation can form on the surface of the optical window, due to the temperature of the optical window being affected by the cooled CCD. Our enhanced design prevents this by virtue of increased distance between the CCD chip and the optical window. You get detail-rich shots with enough resolution to make large format color prints! For the intermediate or advanced astro-imager, or for beginners seeking a camera they won't soon outgrow, the enhanced Orion StarShoot Pro V2.0 delivers award-winning high-resolution performance for an unprecedented low price. Get yours today!

Average Rating:

The StarShoot "DSCI II" enables anyone with a telescope and a computer to shoot dazzling color pictures of star clusters, nebulas, galaxies, and planets. Embedded in the newly designed machined-aluminum housing is an 8mm diagonal (Type 1/2) Sony CCD chip featuring a 752 x 582 pixel array and 8.6 x 8.3 micron pixels. The larger chip sees a wider chunk of sky and is more sensitive than its predecessor, needing less exposure time to produce gorgeous results. The camera's thermoelectric cooling (TEC) system has been improved to further reduce electronic noise in images. The TEC gives the StarShoot a big advantage over the competition's cam, which is uncooled. With TEC, you get better, smoother images.
